Recent “Ask A Pro” question

Below is a recent question we received on www.wecovercheer.com! Ask your very own question on by CLICKING HERE! Thank you to Laura Eilers for answering!
Sheila in Cheyenne, WY:
What do you do to stay in shape with the holidays coming up and all the extra food?
Sheila, it is wonderful that you are aware of the increase in calories that usually comes with the holiday season! That is the first step to make sure you stay in shape. As a certified personal trainer, I advise my clients to prioritize so you can enjoy the holidays. Make a calendar with all of your family and social gatherings where you will be tempted by food. Decide that those events are the only times you will indulge - just a little. Avoid all other temptations... Just say "no" to cookies at work, fruitcake samples at the grocer, and anything else that tries to sneak in. And when you are celebrating, if you choose to indulge please make sure you actually LIKE what you are eating! Do not eat the dinner rolls if you really don't LOVE the dinner rolls! Finally, slightly increase your cardio activities. Jog an extra 10 minutes, take the stairs instead of the elevator, take a fun class you've been meaning to try. Best wishes!

Douglas WY High School Cheer 2012-2013

www.wecovercheer.com
Douglas High Cheerleader

Cheerleading squads have a lot of traditions and bonding ideas and Douglas Wyoming High has a really special one, they create boxes!
This has been in place for the last six years, but the idea is that the returning squad members show the rookies how to make the boxes and as a team they work on them together. This box is used for keeping all their belongings such as pom-poms, warm up, etc. they keep the girls right in the game and prepared for anything!
The squad is made up of Freshman 3, Sophomore 5, Juniors 3,and Seniors 8. The squad’s coach Margo Shatto has been coaching for twelve years and they have some great achievements such as Girl Stunts: 4 first places, 3 second places, and 2 third places; No stunts in the girls category: they place second or third; and when there is coed stunting: they have 1 of all three places!
This year’s squad is a little smaller and is closer than ever! The big goal for the squad is to be the best squad they can be and get more involved with the community!

Greeley Central Cheerleader
You probably have heard of Greeley Central Cheer team around Colorado, the team loves to show their spirit and involvement in the community! That's not even close to the beginning of it, the team has so much spirit that they cheer for every sport at the High school such as: football, basketball, volleyball, soccer, cross country, wrestling and baseball.
This squad involves 17 girls and 5 boys ranging from 2 freshman, 9 sophomores, 7 juniors, 4 seniors. The team has spent the season perfecting their sideline cheers and routines from camp to be performed for the first home football game.
The big goal for the team is to make the top 5 in the Colorado State Cheer Competition in December! The coaches that are leading the way are Lisa McGee along with her Assistant Sarah that just joined this summer!
Lisa started the season feeling overwhelmed and a little intimidated, but as the season has gone along they have learned to respect and grow together. "I can honestly say I am proud to know and coach every single athlete on this team. They blow me away every day." (Lisa McGee)

Greeley Central CO High School Poms 2012-2013

Greeley Central Cheerleader
Greeley Central High pom squad has a lot accomplished in such a short time! This team is the first in five years for the High school; they began by holding auditions on August 14th where fourteen members were added (six juniors and 8 seniors).
The girls worked hard and put in the dedication to make up a fun and exciting routine just in time for the first home game (which was only a few short weeks after auditions). hey then got back to work on the second performance so they could surprise their fans with a brand new routine for the second home game!
During the second game between quarters Dominick from the cheerleading squad asked Allie from the pom squad to the homecoming dance with the help of the cheer squad!
The team is led by a new coach Jennifer Berg, this is Jennifer’s first year coaching high school pom, but her background dancing in North Dakota and in college for the University of Wyoming definitely have prepared her for what’s in store! She has said that this team is hard working and shows great team spirit at every event they attend! The plan for this season is to have fun and at least enter one competition! She is so proud of their strong enthusiasm for dance! This team is sure to impress and entertain the crowds at all the home games!

Recent "Ask A Cheerleader" question

Below is a recent question we received on www.wecovercheer.com! Ask your very own question on by CLICKING HERE! Thank you to Laura Eilers for answering!

Rebecca in Aurora, CO:

Do you do anything to calm your nerves? I get so nervous before auditions and performing at games and I can't seem to beat it.

Nerves during auditions are a good thing! It means that you care about the outcome. The best thing to do is channel that nervous energy into adrenaline and excitement. Consider bringing an mp3 player with your favorite calming music or pump up music to get you energized while you wait for your audition. Envision yourself wearing that uniform, performing for the crowd, making the judges smile and nod their head. And practice practice practice that audition routine.... because if the nerves get the best of you and cause a momentary lapse, you'll know the material so well you can jump right back in without it affecting your confidence. Best of luck!
